Specialty Dentistry
Specialty Care
While general dentists can perform a variety of procedures, at Dameron Family Dentistry we believe there are certain times when a specialist is necessary. A dental specialist has gone to extra schooling or “residency” to focus on a particular branch of dentistry.
Oral Surgery
Although Drs. Merrick and Laura Dameron will do everything possible to preserve your natural teeth, you may need oral surgery at some point. While we will occasionally perform a tooth extraction at our office, we typically refer to a select few oral surgeons.
Tooth extractions are not the only type of oral surgery. Many patients may be candidates for dental implants after they lose one or more natural teeth, which may require additional surgery such as bone grafting. Oral surgeons can also assess and biopsy suspicious sores or lesions in your mouth and treat chronic oral conditions. Jaw surgery to correct malocclusion can also be addressed by an oral surgeon!
Periodontics
Periodontists primarily specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease; a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth.
Periodontists may perform specialty cleanings such as root planning, though a laser also can be used to provide fast and minimally invasive gum disease treatment. More advanced cases may require surgical treatment to remove infected gum tissue.
Endodontics
Endodontists are specialists who focus on the tissues inside the teeth, which contain nerves and blood vessels. They typically diagnose abscesses, or infections, and perform root canal treatments. They work to save your natural teeth, as it’s always best to keep your original teeth if possible.
Pediatric Dentistry
While we ARE a family dental practice and do see many small children, there are special cases where sedation or more specialty tools and attention may be needed for your little one.
Pediatric dentists are specially trained in child psychology and behavior guidance techniques to help ease the fears of, and create a positive experience for, children with a wide range of temperaments and developmental levels. Pediatric dentistry practices are often decorated and curated with children in mind, and so may utilize childhood characters, bright colors, specialized tools and toys.
Orthodontics
The way your teeth fit together has a big impact on your overall health! Orthodontists diagnose and treat malocclusion, or “bad bites”, meaning they realign teeth in the mouth to be as effective as possible for eating and smiling. At Dameron Family Dentistry, we refer to ortho practices focused on both child and adult dentition. Common orthodontic treatments include traditional braces, clear aligners and retainers.
