What is Considered General Dentistry?
General Dentistry typically refers to comprehensive dental care for patients of all ages. The topics that are commonly discussed within general dentistry include:
- Oral Hygiene
- Dental restoration services
- Bruxism or teeth-grinding
- Treatment for sensitive teeth
- Oral tissue infections
- X-Rays
- Oral Cancer Screenings
- Teeth whitening
Adult’s First Visit
Each patient who is new to our office starts by having a comprehensive exam. At this appointment, the doctors will first sit down with you to discuss your dental concerns, desires, and history. We will also review your medical history and medication list and perform a blood pressure screening. We chart all of your teeth, restorations, and decay. We do an oral cancer screening, a periodontal screening, a TMJ screening and assess your overall dental health. Intraoral pictures are also taken to help you see what we see. This is just another way we involve you in the treatment process. Then, we will sit down and discuss your treatment needs and prioritize the timing of your treatment.
Children’s First Visits
Prior to their first visit, you are welcome to bring your little one along to any of your own appointments. This can help them get accustomed to our practice. We typically recommend bringing your child in for their first visit at around 2-3 years of age. To prepare for their first visit, ask us about the procedures that will take place so there are no surprises. Talk with your child about what to expect, and plan for any possible reaction your child may have.
