Dental Implants
Dental implants are a type of restorative dentistry in Canton, GA that replace natural teeth. You can choose this option if you have a single missing tooth, several consecutive missing teeth, or have no natural teeth remaining in your mouth.
Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants consist of a titanium post that sits below the gum line, an abutment piece that sits above the gum line, and an artificial tooth attached to the abutment. The best candidates for dental implants have strong enough bone structure to support the implant post. However, Dr. Merrick Dameron or Dr. Laura Dameron may be able to transfer a small fragment of bone from another area of the mouth if the bone in the implant area is weak.
Some people are not good candidates for this procedure due to certain medical conditions or lifestyle habits.
These include:
- Blood clotting disorders
- Bone diseases
- Currently receiving treatment for cancer
- Smoking
- Uncontrolled diabetes
We will present you with several other tooth replacement options if you would like to get dental implants but cannot for one or more of the reasons listed above.
What to Expect During the Dental Implant Procedure
When you come in for your initial consultation, Dr. Merrick Dameron or Dr. Laura Dameron will inspect your gums and any remaining teeth, followed by several X-rays. If you decide to go ahead with the procedure, the next step is to schedule an appointment to have the implant posts installed.
You then need to wait several weeks for your jawbone to heal and for the posts to merge with the existing bone in your jaw. We provide you with a temporary restoration in the meantime. Your dentist attaches the abutments and artificial teeth at the next appointment.
Most of our patients who have dental implants say that they function, look, and feel just like their natural teeth. Please schedule a consultation with Dameron Family Dentistry to learn more about options for restorative dentistry in Canton, GA.
